Instructions / Information

We used the above instructions to train the research assistants/interviewers. They suggested some tweaks for use in the villages.

The 2012 data from these communities provided these reference ranges.

Interviewers used this sheet to confirm reported animal years and ages.

Note: The study communities specifically requested collection of urine, rather than blood samples, because of their concern with gou.

Current household members, ages, sex, educational attainment, location. Remittances and occupations.

Recording of anthropometry and other vital signs occurred here.

The echosonographer recorded data during the exam.

The Identification Confirmation form was used to assure that the women participating in 2019 were correctly linked to the information they provided in 2012. Printed forms with each 2012 participant’s information provided the information to match with the 2019 reports. ID confirmation was straightforward in nearly all cases.

Using manufacturers’ and clinical information about the implications of certain results and recommendations for further actions. Further action first involved a retest.

Sample Informed Consents

After ID confirmation, each woman provided informed consent.


Sample Collection Forms

Blood pressure ranges: used to evaluate whether resting blood pressure was in the normal range or hypertensive.

The form showed the reproductive history information provided in 2012 for update in 2019.

Information on study participants’ sisters and brothers provides information on maternal mortality.
